The soaring temperature has resulted in the increase of fish prices in the emirate of Umm Al Quwain. The fishermen are not going into the sea and the availability of fish in open markets decreased significantly. The scarcity of fish made it an expensive item, marking 100% price rise comparing to the price rates last month.
“Fishermen, be they Emirati nationals or expatriates, do not feel like to go fishing in this unbearable hot and humid weather,” Muhammad Ashraf, a fish trader told Khaleej Times.
Fish also swim deeper to avoid the high temperature of surface waters, he added. “This adds more burdens on the fishermen and makes their job quite harder as most fish swim deep to cold waters where they get unreachable.”
