The Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology (ESMA), has issued regulations and requirements for self-driving vehicles in the UAE.
Abdulla Abdulqader Almaeeni, Director General of (ESMA), announced that, “This regulation will be applied at the federal level, which will directly affect the quality of life in general, especially in the field of transportation of individuals, and public and private properties.
“These standards will meet the government’s plans within the national agenda, and enhances the UAE’s competitiveness globally,” he said.
“ESMA is focusing on providing the highest safety standards in modern transport vehicles that match the latest technologies and innovations in terms of vehicle self-driving and communication between and Vehicles, the surrounding environment, in an effort to provide a legislative and technical infrastructure conducive to innovation, he added.
Almaeeni also confirmed that the ESMA will be presented this project during a major international event, “the Future Vehicles World 2017”, which will be organised by the ESMA in Dubai in November.
